Helen studied Art History at Manchester University before pursuing a career in commercial marketing, including managing art sponsorship for Hiscox Insurance, where she worked with The Whitechapel and Serpentine Galleries. She went on to develop knowledge and expertise at Sotheby’s Institute, and in galleries in London and Surrey.

She founded her business The Art Buyer in April 2020, with the aim of banishing blank walls and filling homes with beautiful art. The Art Buyer aims to demystify the art world for new collectors and help established collectors connect with new artists. By curating a selection of current contemporary art and bringing the art to your home, The Art Buyer offers the thrill of the discovery, without the hassle. Ultimately sharing the lifelong pleasure of adorning your walls with art. The Art Buyer donates a % of profits to charity all year round, Helen calls it ‘Art With Heart’. Having supported the Trussel Trust, NHS Charity and Women’s Aid the current Spring Show is supporting Young Minds (a youth mental health charity).

The Art Buyer offers an online gallery, consultation and the option to ‘try’ the art in your home, as well as the opportunity to create a unique commission from an artist especially for your space.

In this episode, Helen’s lifelong passion for art is clear as she talks us through what led her to start the business. She provides a very honest account of her career and what inspired her business model, as well as the highs and lows of starting a company in the arts.
