    Isolamento by Gina Soden

Isolamento is part of acclaimed photographer Gina Soden’s latest series – How Long Is Now (2020).

This is a series that plays with a powerful paradox. At first glance, the viewer might think the photographs only depict the past: past dreams, past lives, past structures. In fact, Soden’s work really talk about the present and our perception of passing time. This series pushes the viewer into a profound reflection about the meaning of time, and our understanding of the present moment — of Now.

This work features an abandoned building, which the artist found and photographed near the Italian town of Bergamo.

“On my 4th attempt I finally got inside here. Always overlooked by neighbours and a police station right next door, it always seemed tricky as it was hard not to get spotted. This was a grand villa which was the main residence of the owner of a nearby factory. It had beautiful grounds with large tropical trees and an incredible oriental themed greenhouse. The villa was mainly empty apart from rooms featuring grand fireplaces, frescoes and a large skylight. I loved the emptiness of this room apart from this single chair and the dramatic lighting coming in from the mostly shuttered window behind.” – Gina Soden
