Meet The Art Buyer Collective This July

Alison Hunt, Emma Price, Joy Gosney, Rachel Redfern and Sophie Milton

An exhibition carefully curated as part of The Art Buyer Collective, brings
together five female artists whose work embodies the ethos of y u t o r i ~ a sense of
wellbeing that comes from living with spaciousness; consciously taking time
to breathe, absorb and appreciate the beauty of nature.

    Visit y u t o r i at The Art Buyer Gallery 6th July to 3rd August 2024.

    The Art Buyer Collective

Having individually established themselves in successful and diverse careers, which
often demanded a more hectic pace of life ~ each artist has subsequently turned to
painting as a way to find a window of calm within the chaos and rigours of modernday living.
Each artist has their own process of making time and space for soulful experiences,
translating into beautiful, atmospheric works of art ~ whether through a
connection with nature or a visceral memory ~ their work evolves to evoke a sense
of stillness, quiet and balance ~ noticing details in the natural world around them.
Allowing their work to evolve organically, through a considered choice of materials
and colour palettes ~ each artists’ work appeals on a sub-conscious level to our
human need to regularly experience the beauty of the natural world ~ often
eliciting a deep, emotional response within viewers, as it resonates with their own
    lived experiences.
Bringing their work together in this exhibition ~ we hope that it acts as a gentle
reminder of the importance to reconnect with spaciousness, and the art of slowing
down in our daily lives – yutori.

The Art Buyer is delighted to introduce The Art Buyer Collective July 2024.

Alison Hunt The Art Buyer Gallery
Alison is a contemporary artist based on the Surrey/Hampshire border. Working from the solitude of her garden
studio she creates mesmerising abstract paintings reflective of time spent absorbed in nature.
The fluidity of materials, shapes and colours allows Alison to take a chance on alchemy and the unexpected.
Almost in opposition to the structure and order of daily family life. In doing so she captures the magic of the
memory of a place, fleeting glimpses that stay with us as we go about the everyday.
Alison’s paintings are not planned but instinctively develop as she builds up layers of acrylic glazes and inks on
a prepared textural surface. Working from black and white photographs that she takes on her journeys Alison
uses the sculptural lines of the landscape as a starting point and then lets the flow of the paint take hold.
Alison opens her studio annually for Surrey Artists Open Studios and has shown work in galleries and art fairs.

Emma Price Artist The Art Buyer Gallery
A Surrey-based abstract, and semi-abstract, landscape painter, Emma Price works primarily in oils. Emma
initially undertook a Foundation Fine Art Degree before completing a Bachelor of Graphic Design in 1993.
Although having a successful design career in both Australia and England, as a magazine Art/Creative Director
across leading women’s titles – in 2019 Emma left the publishing world to pursue her fine arts career. Having
always felt a connection to our natural world, her work has evolved from realism pencil artist to abstract
landscape painter – often based on landscapes Emma has lived and travelled through, she creates atmospheric
works that have a strong sense of light and drama, that take the viewer to more ethereal and imagined
Recent successes include being a finalist for the prestigious David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Wildlife Artist
of the Year 2024, and 2023, as well as being Highly Commended in 2023 in the Earth’s Wild Beauty category.
She was shortlisted for the Women in Art Prize 2023, in the abstract painting category; and exhibits regularly at
art fairs and galleries across the country, including the Mall Galleries, London

Joy Gosney Artist The Art Buyer Gallery
Joy Gosney is a Yorkshire born artist, raised in the flat fens of Lincolnshire, relocated to both London and
Brighton and is now based in Nottinghamshire. She gained her BA in Illustration from the University of
Kingston in 1999 and has been practicing in the fields of art, design and illustration commercially throughout
    her career.
Since 2021, working in acrylic paint and often combining elements of mark making using oil pastel and
pencil, Joy’s work focuses on the natural rhythm of landscape, often emerging organically from an abstract
underpainting. She has staged two successful solo shows, and exhibited in several well-received group
exhibitions around the country. Most recently, one of her paintings has been selected to exhibit in the Royal
Academy Summer Exhibition 2024, open June to August.
Joy works from her painting studio in the garden of her home in Newark on Trent.

Rachel Redfern Artist The Art Buyer Gallery
Rachel’s artwork is varied and instinctive. Working with oils she draws on photographs, sketches and memories
based on her time in nature and the impact of seasons and world events on her daily life and mental health.
Time spent in silent contemplation outside contrasts with reflective moments at her home painting altar.
Working with flowers picked at dawn from her garden she uses meditation, candles and the burning of sage to
    connect to her creative instincts.
Rachel has exhibited at The Other Art Fair, Manchester Contemporary Art Fair and in galleries across the South
East. She often works to commission for individuals and interior designers and has artwork in private collections
both at home and abroad. She is a graduate of Newlyn Art School Mentoring Programme, has an MA in
Fine Art from Chichester University, a Foundation Diploma from West Dean College and a Foundation in Art
    Psychotherapy from Roehampton University
Rachel is a Trustee for the charity Mind and is currently Artist In Residence at Cabilla, a temperate rainforest in
    Bodmin, Cornwall.

Sophie Milton artist The Art Buyer Gallery
Sophie creates abstract compositions exploring the tension between natural form and the built environment,
often deconstructing the familiar, creating layers which evoke a sense of depth and history. She works from her
    studio in Guildford, Surrey
The themes of strong architectural form and texture found in buildings and in nature which heavily influence
Sophie’s work are drawn from time spent in London, southern France, the Bahamas and the southern United
States. The work of 19th Century cubist and abstract painters Paul Klee and George Braque and Cornish 20th
Century artists Peter and Matthew Lanyon, and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham also continue to inform and inspire.
