Jane Kell

Jane Kell has a degree in art history & theory and started painting in 2010 after working as Head of Press at the National Gallery.

“There was a Degas show in the gallery at the time and it was a tipping point for me, being surrounded by such inspiring work, I bought some oil paints and started painting”

Initially she painted still life and small scale landscapes, but following a residency in France where she worked en plein air for the first time she started to work in freer way and on a larger scale.

In 2018 she was commissioned by the Belmond group to paint a series of large abstracts for the Cadogan Hotel in Knightsbridge. In 2019 she re-located to Washington DC with her husband where she showed with the Amy Kaslow Gallery, this solo show in October 2020 was a sell out and she was appointed artist-in-residence. Her second solo show at the gallery in 2022 was reviewed by the Washington Post where her work was praised by Mark Jenkins. During her time in Washington she worked intensively, with her work being collected internationally.

Jane returned to her home in Teddington in April 2022 where she built a new studio in the garden and is enjoying the beauty of the surrounding landscape, particularly Bushy Park, Richmond, and walks along the Thames.
