He studied at Sheffield Hallam University under Realist painter and Turner Prize nominee George Shaw, graduating with a BA Hons in Fine Art Painting in 2003. In 2022 his documentary film The Artist, made in collaboration with Director Jamie Hull Greenwood, which explores the motivations behind Greg’s work, was the winner of multiple International IMDB film festival awards. In 2025 he won the Guild of Ships Painting Award and will consequently be Artist in Residence on the 68ft Lugger and eco-sailing vessel Greyhound on its journey from the UK to France this summer. The resulting works won the Classic Boat Award at the Royal Society of Marine Artists, London, in September. Greg lives in Salcombe, South Devon, and exhibits in the coastal Southwest and the maritime East Coast of America.

“Water is a mesmerising thing. I love to be beside it. There is a calmness in spending time contemplating the beauty of rivers, estuaries and seas, and in being at the edge of the ocean with the infinite horizon line before me” – Greg Ramsden.
