Emma Tweedie
Emma Tweedie grew up in Northern Ireland and now works from her studio in Greater London. After studying printmaking and photography, Emma had successful careers in fashion, sustainable textiles and interiors. Painting professionally for the last five years, Emma has been highly focused on developing techniques and her studio practice, being shortlisted in 2019 for the Sunny International Art Prize, as well as the International Pebeo Mixed Media Award. In 2021 was selected to show at The Other Art Fair in conjunction with Saatchi Art.
Emma’s current body of impressionistic ‘layer paintings’ are highly textured yet subtle and nuanced, drawing the viewer slowly in where they continue to discover all manner of mark making. Emma looks to the land, sea and sky for inspiration and often to her native homeland, its unique environment as well as the myths and legends connected to it.
“I have developed a powerful and co-dependant connection with nature. This is probably down to the fact I turned to nature when growing up as a coping mechanism for dealing with the troubles and conflict there. From expansive open spaces and wild elements of Ireland to places further afield that have an unspoken, quiet power about them. The act of painting is a form of introspective spadework, where I am constantly ‘digging deep’, my daily meditation that feels like a spiritual rite of passage.”
