Debbie Lawrence

Debbie Lawrence is a Brighton based abstract / figurative painter.

Known for her bold use of colour, texture & depictions of female sea swimmers.

Debbie Lawrence graduated in 2001 with a BA hons in Multi Media Textiles. An experimental textile course heavily focused on drawing. For many years Debbie enjoyed a successful career in fashion & interiors before fulfilling an ambition to be a painter.

In her work acrylic paint is applied with bold confident brushstrokes onto the canvas.  Other techniques include scratching, sanding and sometimes embroidery to create a desired texture and to build up the many layers that give the paintings depth and interest.

Her joyful, colourful paintings contain remembered landscapes and explore the healing power of nature, friendship and the restorative properties of water through the joys of swimming . Evoking feelings of solitude, bravery, immersion and peace.
